Issue of ban on Indian TV channels taken up with Pak: Dasmunsi

Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The government has taken up with Pakistan the issue of ban on transmission of Indian TV channels in that country, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said here today.

The issue was raised several times, including during the Cultural Secretary level talks on Promotion of Friendly Exchange held in New Delhi in August, 2004 and in Islamabad in July last year under the Composite Dialogue framework, the Minister told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

''It has been conveyed to Pakistan that its ban on the telecast of Indian TV channels has only resulted in widespread piracy by cable operators there,'' Mr Dasmunsi said.
