Gujarat Bar opposes move to levy Service Tax on lawyers

Ahmedabad, Feb 22 (UNI) The Bar Council of Gujarat has written letters to the Prime Minister and Union Finance Minister, strongly protesting against levy of any type of Service Tax on legal practitioners in the Central Budget for 2006-07.

Mr R R Shukla, former Bar Council Chairman and sitting member of special commitee, has contested any move to impose any suggestion or action, besides any type of Service Tax on legal practitioners.

The council has also requested all the bar associations in the State to pass appropriate resolutions in this regard and forward the copies to the Union Finance Minister.
