EC has filed 473 cases of inclusion of bogus voters in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 23 (UNI)The Election Commission has so far filed 473 cases of inclusion of bogus voters in Tamil Nadu, according to Election Commissioner N Gopalsamy.

Talking to reporters here after a review meeting with the collectors of Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam, he said the number of polling booths would be increased to 52,255 from 45,745 at present.

On the transfer of officials, working in a place for more than three years, he said it would be taken up after the completion of final electoral rolls.

Asked whether the elections would be held on a single day or in phases, he said this has not yet been decided.

He further added the number of Electronic Voting Machines would have to be increased to at least 80,000 from 65,000 at present.

The Election Commission has decided to obtain about 15,000 EVM from neighbouring state Karnataka, he added.

Asked about printing of photographs of voters on the voters list he said this was done in Kerala and Pondicherry, and in 36 constituencies in West Bengal.

However, in Tamil Nadu the final electoral rolls were yet to be readied, he pointed out.
