Credit outlay for Meghalaya Rs 216 cr for next fiscal: NABARD

Shillong, Feb 23 (UNI) The State Focus Paper brought out by NABARD has projected Rs 216 crore for Meghalaya for next financial year under priority sector.

The State Credit Seminar held yesterday to discuss the issues identified in the State Focus Paper was attended by Meghalaya Addl.

Chief Secretary S K Tiwari, Mr B.K. Dev Varma, Principal Secretary Finance, Mr J.M. Mauskar, Principal Secretary, Rural Development, Mr Amaresh Kumar, Executive Director, NABARD, Mr S.B. Sheokand, CEO, NABCONS and senior officers from banks, RBI, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and NGOs.

State Credit Plan has projected a growth rate of 46 per cent over current year's Potential Linked Plan estimation.

The projection under agriculture sector is Rs. 43 crore.

NABARD will be shortly launching a special scheme to assist 500 families in Ri Bhoi District out of its Tribal Development Fund (TDF).

Under the Cluster Development Programme Handloom weaving in Garobadha in West Garo Hills district has been identified.

Credit potential in the State for Tourism, Organic Farming, Medicinal Plants, Floriculture and various other activities under agriculture, industries and service sector were discussed in the seminar.

Increasing the coverage of self help groups in the state was identified as a thrust area.
