CPI stages dharna against UPA Govt's 'anti-people' policies
Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Karnataka today staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue here in protest against price rise and the ''anti-people'' policies pursued by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.
CPI State Secretary M D Harigovinda, in a release here, said the dharna was in response to a call given by the party's National Council to observe All India Protest Day today.
Later, the agitators submitted a memorandum to Governor T N Chaturvedi, urging the Union Government to implement its Common Minimum Programmes (CMP) and take effective steps to check rise in prices of essential commodities.
