Cabinet approves conversion of Tripura college to National Institute

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Cabinet today gave its approval for taking over the Tripura Engineering College, Agartala as a fully funded institute of the Central government and converting it into National Institute of Technology with Deemed to be University Status and make it a fully funded Central government institution.

Making the Tripura engineering college, Agartala a fully funded institute under the Central Government and its integration with 19 other National Institutes of Technology, will enable it to provide necessary leadership in the field of technical education for the state of Tripura, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

Besides, it would also become a national centre of excellence and help produce quality manpower comparable to those produced by other national level institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology, Mr Dasmunsi said.
