Assembly witnesses unruly scenes over Adjournment Motions

Hyderabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Opposition parties today stalled proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for sometime insisting that Speaker K R Suresh Reddy reconsider his decision to disallow the Motions given notice of by them.

Soon after the House met for the day, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that the Adjournment Motions given notice of by the TDP, TRS, CPI(M), BJP were disallowed.

The TDP persisted with raising the issue of the Irrigation Department permitting the contractor to take up earthen structures in a flank of the Pulichintla project, instead of the originally stipulated concrete structure.

They stalled the proceedings, waving placards against the alleged irregularity. Other Opposition members including CPI(M) and BJP joined the protests.

Despite repeated requests from the Speaker, the opposition members insisted on discussing these. The Speaker tried to prevail upon them that they could raise all the issues in some other form.

The Speaker abruptly adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
