All India volleyball tourney in AP begins Feb 24

Vijayawada, Feb 22 (UNI) Nearly 300 players are expected to participate in the XII Parvathaneni Brahmayya Siddhartha All India Volleyball Tournament scheduled to begin here on February 24.

Addressing a press conference today, Organiser Siddhartha Academy vice president Venkateswarulu said the tournament for men and women was being held to encourage the youth to take up sports. The four-day event will be held on a league-cum-knock-out basis.

The academy will be spending Rs two lakh for the tournament. The remaining Rs two lakh will come from sponsors like the State Bank of India and Andhra Bank among others.

The winners will get Rs 10,000 each with the runners up picking up Rs 7,000 each. Those coming third will get Rs 5,000 each, Mr Venkateswarulu added.

Loyola College, Chennai in the men's section and Sports Training Centre-Kerala in women's section won the last year's event.
