New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Union Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar today called for involvement of 12 lakh women panchayat leaders in the National Commission for Women's (NCW) rural awareness programme 'Chalo Gaon ki Aur'.
During a meeting with NCW chairperson Girija Vyas here, Mr Aiyar said the 12 lakh women can get organised and together with the Commission and ensure that the programme was a success.
He invited women leaders in the rural areas to shoulder the responsibilities of planning and implementing the campaign.
They discussed the strategy to implement the Chalo Gaon Ki Aur' and Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan by involvement of the panchayati raj institutions.
Mr Aiyar suggested that the Commission take a lead in the empowerment of elected Panchayat representatives by facilitating their forming a group for claiming their legitimate rights.
Dr Vyas said training for trainers and training for rural women will also be a part of the plan of action to make the programme a success.
Details of the method of bringing the elected Panchayati Raj Representatives together on one platform were discussed.
