39,000 fake voters detected in Jalpaiguri district

Jalpaiguri, Feb 24 (UNI) As many as 39,000 names had been struck off from the voters list of 12 Assembly constituencies of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal by the Election Commission.

District Election Officer and Magistrate A Subbaya told UNI here today that there had been a lot of illegal voters in the district, but '' we have cancelled all their names from the final voters' list''.

Altogether 3,390 names had been deleted in Kumar gram constituency, 2,283 names in Kalchini, 5,133 names in Alipurduar, 3,566 names in Falakata, 3,373 names in Madarihat, 3,227 names in Dhupguri, 4,601 names in Nagrakata, 2,916 names in Maynaguri, 2,063 names in Malbazar, 2,295 names in Kranti, 2990 names in Rajgunj and 3,188 names in Jalpaiguri constituency.

Mr Subbaya informed that though names of fake voters had been struck off, the number of voters had gone up.

In the 22 Assembly constituencies in Jalpaiguri, an increase of 2.63 per cent voters has been registered, he said.

He said with 88,548 new names, the total number of voters was 193,573.
