Why India can't trust the CIA's intelligence input?

Bengaluru, Dec 22: We have yet another story on the intelligence sharing regarding the 26/11 attack and it has almost become a habit for the Americans and the British to let out such information in bits and pieces year after year.

The US has time and again said that intelligence was shared with India on the 26/11 attack and this fact has been repeatedly denied by India. For India the attacks were not specific enough to collate and act upon.

Several officers blamed the government of the day for this lackluster approach and said that there was no seriousness in approaching this issue before and even after the attack.

CIA alerts to be viewed with care:

The inputs that are usually given to us by the CIA are always noted carefully by India. According to Saroj Kumar Rath, the author of the renowned book, Fragile Frontiers: The Secret History of Mumbai Terror Attacks, we have to be very careful and double check the information we have received from CIA.

It might be a stage-managed to lure India to US fight in Afghanistan once NATO withdraw.

This because there were many such reports in the past relayed to the IB but did not turn to be true. US want a greater involvement of India in Afghanistan and therefore, they have been feeding such reports.

Saeed is not capable of independent operation:

Is Saeed capable of operating individually? If CIA is assessing Saeed bereft of Pakistan army's support, then the intelligence is half truth and CIA is doing it purposefully - to save its Pakistani partner (read army) and at the same time pressing Saeed button terming him as a threat to India.

Irrespective of CIA intelligence, Saeed is under tremendous pressure to perform in India because the army is going against the TTP but not against Saeed's LeT because the army feel that bleed India should continue which is not happening.

When is CIA specific?

It has been seen time and again and speaking to several intelligence bureau officials in India one gets the picture that the CIA is specific only when there is a threat to the United States of America. The same applies to the MI6 as well.

The CIA and the MI6 work in coordination and unless there is something that affects their own country they hardly give out proper information. There is ample proof even to suggest that the MI6 had told Zardari the then Pakistan president that he should owe up to the attack soon or India will ask for more information.

India should have been more proactive:

The question now comes back to India and the former NSA, Shivshankar Menon has already made a mundane statement that they were not informed. The fact is that we had no information specifically before the attack.

However that did not prevent us from collating information and worse putting up a lazy Rakesh Maria led probe.

Let us take the David Headley case for instance. Rath points out that india is not that proactive and had no information about him. The US knew about this attack. Headley was arrested nearly a year after the 26/11 attack.

It is interesting that the US wanted to keep him quiet after the 26/11 attack since he could have blurted out a lot.

Moreover India had its own intelligence too and the confession of Sabahuddin Ahmed who was arrested for the CRPF camp, Rampur attack had vaguely said that India will be attacked from the sea. India neither coordinated among their own agencies and neither was there any collation of facts.

Even the Bombay police led by Maria felt that there was only a Lakhvi or Saeed to an attack. A thorough lazy investigation conducted by him only showed to the world that we treated it as a simple case.
