Rajnath Singh shares lunch with BSF officer who lost eye-sight
Mishra, an assistant commandant of the Border Security Force Academy at Tekanpur, had lost his eyesight in a clash with the United Liberation Front of Asom militants in Assam's Tinsukia district.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday was in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh to visit the BSF Academy in Tekanpur district. He was there to attend the passing out parade of the BSF assistant commandants graduating from the academy. Rajnath was later told about the senior BSF officers about Assistant Commandant Sandeep Mishra and his wife Indrakshi, who got married four years.
In a touching gesture, Rajnath took time out of his official engagements to pay a visit to visually impaired BSF officer Sandeep Mishra.
Mishra, an assistant commandant of the Border Security Force Academy at Tekanpur, had lost his eyesight in a clash with the United Liberation Front of Asom militants in Assam's Tinsukia district in 2000.
Rajnath Singh wrote on micro-blogging site twitter and shared a photo with a caption that it was a delight to be in their presence.
''Met the family of BSF Assistant Commandant Sandip Mishra who lost his eyesight during an ambush in 2000. It is their love for the country which binds Sandip and Indrakshi together. It was a delight to have lunch at their home in Tekanpur," Rajnath said on Twitter.
The Home Minister, who spent nearly an hour with Mishra and his family, said the BSF officer derives strength from his wife Indrakshi "who decided to marry him in spite of him being specially abled".
Mishra was commended with a gallantry award and a Police medal in 2004 for his service to the nation. Indrakshi who is a daughter of a lawyer from Bansi in Sidharthnagar district of UP, decided to marry Mishra after she came across a matrimonial ad in 2004 thinking that if this man could do so much for his country, why can't I marry him and told her father that she would marry only him.
