More twists expected in Malegaon blasts case

The trial in the Malegaon blasts case is expected to see several twists and turns. The case has seen multiple twists and turns ever since the probe began.

The Maharashtra ATS which probed the case concluded that it was a group of Hindus who carried out the blasts. It also named Sadhvi Pragya Singh in the case.

The case was later on transferred to the National Investigation Agency. The NIA recently decided to drop charges against Sadhvi on the ground that there was not enough evidence. The NIA in its chargesheet alleged that an ATS man had planted explosives. Further it was also stated that due to misconduct by the ATS one witness had disappeared.

ATS to file affidavit:

The ATS has decided to challenge these findings by the NIA. After seeking legal advise, the ATS would now challenge the findings in the form of an affidavit to be filed before the Special NIA court which is hearing the matter.

The NIA is unlikely to have a smooth run during the trial. Even when the bail plea of Sadhvi was rejected by the court, the NIA had to answer several questions from the court. The NIA had not opposed the bail plea. Once the ATS files the affidavit, the NIA will have more answering to do in court.

NIA officials however say that they stand by their chargesheet. All the conclusions were arrived at based on thorough investigation, an NIA official informed.
