London, Oct 23 : Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al Fayed has vehemently dismissed claims that he sexually assaulted a teenage girl and is confident his name will be cleared.

The 79-year-old multi-millionaire had been accused by a 15-year-old girl of kissing her after she met him at the Knightsbridge store while shopping with her mother earlier this year.

The Harrods owner went voluntarily to a west London police station on October 22, where he was questioned for less than half an hour about the alleged incident in May.

Al Fayed's spokeswoman, Katharine Witty, spoke about the police interview and said that he is "confident" that his name would be cleared.

"Despite assurances today's interview would be kept confidential, Mr Al Fayed is concerned that it was reported within one hour of its conclusion," the Daily Star quoted Witty as saying.

"Mr Al Fayed vehemently denies this allegation and is confident his name will be cleared," she added.

Al Fayed the owner of Fulham FC has often clashed with the British establishment and has been denied a UK passport.
