New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) With a view to retain its subscribers, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today launched an insurance scheme that provides a cover of Rs 50,000 to each of its subscribers in case in case of permanent total disability or accidental death.
''The scheme will cover its 34 million customers comprising BSNL landline, wireless in local loop (WLL) and post-paid mobile customers. The insured sum will be to the extent of Rs 50,000,'' company Chairman and Managing Director Kuldip Goyal told reporters here.
The insured sum will be given in case the customers suffer permanent total disability or accidental death, he said.
Launch the scheme, Telecom Minister A Raja said that the scheme will cover all the bill paying customers of BSNL.
Public sector telecom giant BSNL will pay the premium to Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance.
The scheme ''Free -- Accident Insurance Cover'' will help BSNL to prevent the existing customers from surrendering their connections, besides providing an impetus to expand its subscriber base by adding new users, Mr Goyal said.
Out of the 34 million subscribers, BSNL has about 40 per cent customers in rural areas.
