Muhiram Saikia dead

Guwahati, Feb 1 (UNI) Former Union Minister and three-time AGP MP Muhiram Saikia died today after a prolonged illness.

He was 82.

Mr Saikia was the Union Minister of State for Human Resource in both the Deve Gowda and I K Gujral governments.

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has condoled the death. In a joint statement AGP leaders Birendra Prasad Baishya and Dilip Saikia said that in his death the AGP has lost one of its towering personality. The AGP kept its flag at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Mr Saikia was a renowned educationist before entering politics and became one of the longest serving MPs of the state.
