Former Shimla Lok Sabha MP K D Sultanpuri is dead
Solan, Jun 11 (UNI) Six-time Lok Sabha member from Shimla constituency and veteran Congress member K D Sultanpuri passed away after a massive cardiac arrest at Dharampur area of Shimla district today, family sources said.
He was 74.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters and two sons.
The sources said after Sultanpuri complained of mild chest pain at about 1415 hrs he was admitted to a private clinic, where he breathed his last at about 1455 hrs.
His cremation would take place at Sultanpur village at 1100 hrs tomorrow, the sources said Born on April 20, 1932 at Sultanpur village of Kasauli Constituency, Sultanpuri, who was Chairman of the state's Twenty Point Programme and Planning Implementation Committee, started his political career in the 50's as gram panchayat member of Bohali.
Later, he was elected pradhan of Barog Panchayat and also remained a member of the block development committee.
Sultanpuri also remained Vice Chairman of Zila Parishad and Chairman of Punjab State Marketing Committee during the 1960s before successfully contesting election from Solan Constituency as an independent candidate in 1972.
Prior to this, he was the leader of the Praja Socialist Party.
However, in 1977 he contested from the Kasauli assembly constituency on the Congress ticket but lost the election by a narrow margin.
