The Harishankar Temple was established in the 14th century by a king from the Chauhan dynasty of the Patna kingdom in Odisha. The temple has been a site of worship since the discovery of the deity. An ancient dancing Ganesha image, dating back to the early 12th century, was also found here. Queen Durlabha Devi commissioned the temple's construction under Maharaja Vaijjal Dev Chauhan.
