Rekha Gupta Tests ‘Saheli Pink NCMC Card’ On DTC Bus, Pushes Digital Free Travel For Women
Delhi's Saheli Pink NCMC Card provides free, digital bus travel for women, with easy registration at centres and real-time trip data to improve safety and efficiency on DTC buses.
Delhi’s push to modernise public transport while strengthening women’s safety saw a new development after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta personally inspected the newly introduced “Saheli Pink NCMC Card”. Gupta boarded a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus and travelled using the card to check how the system functions in real-time.

During the journey, the Chief Minister also interacted with passengers and asked women commuters about their experience, ease of use and their sense of safety while travelling with the new digital facility. The Delhi government has introduced the “Saheli Pink NCMC Card” to provide free, digital and safer bus travel for women who rely on public transport across the city.
CM Demonstrates How The Card Works
While travelling on the DTC bus, Rekha Gupta demonstrated how the “Saheli Pink NCMC Card” works during a regular commute. Women passengers simply need to tap the card on the electronic machine installed near the bus entrance. Once tapped, the trip details are automatically recorded in the system, allowing passengers to travel without purchasing a ticket.
Gupta also spoke with several passengers during the ride, asking them whether the system felt convenient and if the digital process made their daily commute easier.
Easy And Free Registration Process
The Delhi government has kept the process of obtaining the “Saheli Pink NCMC Card” simple so that more women can easily access the facility. Special centres have been set up across different parts of Delhi where the card is issued free of cost.
Women who wish to apply only need to visit their nearest centre with their Aadhaar number and mobile number. After completing the registration process, the card is generated immediately and can be used for travel right away.
Government Links Free Travel With Digital Connectivity
During the inspection, Rekha Gupta described the initiative as a major support for women who use buses daily. She said the card connects commuters with modern digital tools while also making travel faster and more convenient.
Explaining the vision behind the scheme, Gupta said, “The Saheli Pink NCMC Card not only gives women the right to free travel but also connects them with modern technology. It is fast, easy and extremely convenient. Our government’s goal is to empower every woman and help her become self-reliant.”
Officials say the digital system will also help the government track ridership patterns more accurately, ensure smoother boarding and reduce the need for cash transactions on buses.
Appeal To Women To Shift To The Digital Card
At the end of the inspection during her DTC bus journey, Gupta urged women who are still using paper passes or older systems to switch to the “Saheli Pink NCMC Card”.
She asked women commuters to visit their nearest registration centres, complete the simple enrolment process and begin using the digital card for free travel on DTC buses.
According to officials, the Chief Minister’s inspection highlights strong government backing for the initiative. The surprise review on a regular DTC route indicates that the administration intends to expand the facility to every eligible woman commuter while keeping the focus on safety, convenience and digital access in Delhi’s public transport system.
