New Delhi, Mar 2:In an outrageous jail interview with one of the six rapists of Nirbhaya, the Telegraph found that Mukesh Singh, the driver of the bus non-repentant. To the surprise of the media persons, he also claimed that it was her mistake to have ventured out after 9 pm.

In a blatant accusation, he said that women who go out at night bring trouble for themselves by attracting the attention of molesters. He said,"A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy."

Nirbhaya rape

His victim, 23-year old Jyoti Singh was returning from cinema with a friend that night when these six men travelling in a mini bus offered them a lift. Hell broke loose on Jyoti as she was violated and beaten brutally with iron rods. A rod was inserted in her private part. She succumbed to her injuries a few days later.

To the audacity of the BBC reporter, he went ahead and said that had Jyoti and her friend not resisted to the rape, she would have been spared the beating that led to her death. He described it merely as an accident and said casually,"When being raped, she shouldn't fight back. She should just be silent and allow the rape. Then they'd have dropped her off after 'doing her', and only hit the boy."

Singh denied involvement in the case, but the court rejected his plea and upheld DNA evidences against him and said that even if he had not taken part, he should have intervened.

While the case was a litmus test for what the Indian courts believed about rape, it also saw the nation uniting against the barbarism meted out against women. But Mukesh shows little remorse. He said,"You can't clap with one hand - it takes two hands. A decent girl won't roam around at 9 o'clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. Boy and girl are not equal. Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong clothes. About 20 per cent of girls are good."

Mukesh has an opinion about the death sentence too. He said,"The death penalty will make things even more dangerous for girls. Before, they would rape and say, 'Leave her, she won't tell anyone.' Now when they rape, especially the criminal types, they will just kill the girl. "
