Gas Cylinder Booking Rules Changed to 35 Days? Truth Behind Viral Claims

Amid widespread reports claiming that LPG gas cylinder booking rules have been revised to include a 35-day waiting period, the government has issued a clarification denying any such change. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that no new LPG refill booking rules have been introduced, and the existing timelines remain unchanged.

According to the official clarification, the minimum gap between two LPG bookings continues to be 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas, regardless of connection type. Authorities have urged citizens not to believe or circulate misinformation and to avoid panic booking, assuring that there is adequate LPG supply across the country.

What Triggered the Confusion

The clarification comes after several reports and social media posts suggested that LPG booking rules had been tightened. These included a 35-day waiting period for non-PMUY double-cylinder users, 25 days for single-cylinder users and 45 days for PMUY connections. The government has now clarified that these claims are incorrect and no such category-wise revision has been made.

Existing LPG Booking Rules Remain

Under the current guidelines, households must follow the fixed waiting period between bookings. The rules are aimed at ensuring fair distribution and preventing misuse, but they have not been altered recently despite speculation.

The government also reiterated that LPG stocks are sufficient and there is no need for consumers to rush bookings or worry about availability.

Why LPG Rules Were in Focus

The confusion emerged at a time when LPG supply has been under pressure due to global factors, particularly tensions in West Asia. Disruptions in shipping routes and rising international energy prices have affected LPG supply chains, leading to increased scrutiny of domestic distribution policies.

Earlier this month, the minimum booking gap had already been revised from 21 days to 25 days, alongside a ₹50 price hike for 14.2 kg cylinders. This may have contributed to speculation about further tightening of rules.

Booking Process Remains Unchanged

Consumers can continue to book LPG gas cylinders through existing methods, including mobile apps, IVRS calls, SMS and WhatsApp services offered by Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas. All bookings require a registered mobile number and generate confirmation messages with delivery details.

For households, the key takeaway is that there is no new 35-day rule. Consumers should continue to follow the existing 25-day or 45-day booking gap, depending on their location, and avoid relying on unverified information.

The government has assured that LPG supply is stable, and normal booking practices will ensure uninterrupted access to cooking gas.
