AITC Assam: All India Trinamool Congress Releases First List of 17 Candidates for Assam Assembly Elections

he All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has kicked off its campaign for the Assam Assembly elections by releasing its first list of 17 candidates, marking a significant push by the party to expand its footprint in the Northeast.

Led by Mamata Banerjee, the party has fielded candidates across key constituencies, signalling an intent to emerge as a third force in Assam's political landscape. The list includes Jiten Nag (Digboi), Tapas Das (Udharbond), Mominur Islam (Bilasipara), Rajan Chouhan (Gorewar) and Dulu Ahmed (Chamaria).

Other names in the list are Udangsri Narzary (Baokhungri), Arif Akhtar Ahmed (Jaleswar), Fazlut Rahman Laskar (Katigorah) and Shahjahan Laskar (Sonai), reflecting a mix of regional representation and community outreach.

This is TMC's first major electoral move in Assam, underlining its strategy to grow beyond West Bengal and establish a presence in new states. While the main contest in Assam is expected to remain between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led alliance, TMC's entry could influence outcomes in select seats.

With polling scheduled for April 9, the announcement of candidates suggests that TMC is moving early to build ground support and position itself as an alternative voice in the state.
