Hyderabad Bullet Train Project: Telangana Plans 500 Acres Near Shamshabad, Targets Rs 70,000 Crore Road Push

Telangana has unveiled an ambitious infrastructure vision with Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announcing that the state government is planning to allocate 500 acres of land near Shamshabad, under the Future City limits, for a proposed bullet train project.

The announcement, made in the Assembly on Monday, signals a broader push by the state to improve transport connectivity and accelerate large-scale road and highway development across Telangana.

The minister said the bullet train proposal is part of the government's wider plan to strengthen infrastructure in the state, while also laying out a massive road development target over the next few years.

Telangana Plans Land Allocation For Proposed Bullet Train Project

Speaking in the Assembly, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the Telangana government is preparing to earmark 500 acres near Shamshabad within the Future City limits for a proposed bullet train project. The move is being seen as a key step towards preparing the groundwork for future high-speed rail connectivity in and around Hyderabad.

The minister also underlined the state government's broader infrastructure goals, saying it plans to complete road works worth Rs 70,000 crore over the next three years. He added that the aim is to convert all roads in Telangana into model roads by December 2028.

Major Infrastructure Push Across Telangana

Highlighting the state's infrastructure priorities, the minister said several major transport projects are being taken up to improve regional connectivity and support economic growth.

Among the key proposals is a greenfield highway linking Future City, Amaravati and Bandar Port, which is expected to create a stronger road corridor between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The government is also focusing on the expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway into a six-lane route.

Another major project announced is the development of a 53-km elevated corridor between Mannanur and Srisailam. These projects, according to the minister, are part of a larger roadmap to modernise the state's transport network and unlock long-term economic benefits.

Centre Proposes High-Speed Rail Corridors Involving Hyderabad

The state government's bullet train proposal comes at a time when the Centre is also pushing ahead with plans to expand India's high-speed rail network.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier said that three high-speed rail corridors involving Hyderabad have been proposed. These include links between Hyderabad and Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune.

If implemented, these corridors could position Hyderabad as a major hub for long-distance high-speed rail travel in southern and western India, significantly reducing travel time between major metro cities.

Seven High-Speed Rail Corridors Announced In Union Budget

In the Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced seven proposed high-speed rail corridors aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable passenger transport across the country.

The corridors listed in the Budget include Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi and Varanasi-Siliguri.

Alongside these passenger-focused projects, the Finance Minister also proposed a new dedicated freight corridor from Dankuni in West Bengal to Surat in Gujarat to improve cargo movement and logistics efficiency.

At present, work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is already underway. Meanwhile, the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors have already become operational, marking steady progress in the Centre's broader railway modernisation plans.
