Drishyam 3: Release of Mohanlal's Film To Be Pushed Over Iran-US War?

Mohanlal's much-awaited movie Drishyam 3 is unlikely to release on April 2 over the crisis in Middle East due to Iran-US war.

Trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai, in a post on X, said, "As per sources #Drishyam3 slated for release on April 2 is likely to be pushed due to the "emerging situation in the gulf". The promotions also seems to be on the hold."

The producers had announced that Drishyam 3 would hit global theaters on April 2. Mohanlal set the internet ablaze by sharing a haunting motion poster on X (formerly Twitter) with a caption that sent chills down fans' spines:

"Years passed. The past didn't."

This ominous tagline suggests that while Georgekutty has successfully shielded his family for years, the legal and moral consequences of that fateful night in the first film are finally catching up to him.

However, the tensions in the Middle East due to the US-Iran war has forced the makers push the release. It is because Mollywood or Malayalam cinema has a big market in the Gulf countries and the makers do not want to take risk. Hence, the producers seem to have cautiously decided to postpone the release.

Drishyam is one of the most successful franchises in the Indian cinema. The first instalment will hit the screens in 2013. Following the massive success in the Malayalam version, it was remade in other languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi.

The second installment hit the screens in 2022. However, it saw the light of the day directly on the OTT platform.

Few Indian franchises boast the landmark status of Drishyam. Beyond shattering box-office records, its screenplay has become a masterclass in storytelling, leading to successful remakes in multiple languages and even international territories. It remains a focal point of cinematic discussion due to its exploration of ethical gray areas, testing just how far a common man will go to protect his own.
