Colombo, Feb 11: In a development that raises questions on what the Sri Lankan government is trying to hide, the jailed former army chief General has reportedly been asked to refrain from speaking to international organisations on 'war crimes' during the country's war against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Before his arrest, Fonseka had stated that he was not going to save 'anyone who has committed war crimes'. This comes amid International human rights organisations' growing interest in the alleged war crimes during the final battle against LTTE.

“He has reportedly spoken regarding certain things that took place during the war. He also said he is going to provide evidence," Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said while speaking to reporters.

“If he (Fonseka) is going to give evidence to certain international organisations regarding incidents that have taken place after the war was initiated then I believe that the army has the right to question such a military officer," he said.

He, however, did not name any international bodies.

Apart from the human rights activists, the US State Department had also alleged that Sri Lankan security forces committed war crimes during the final phase of the war against Tamil Tigers.

Recently, it was established that a video showing execution of Sri Lankan Tamils by armed forced was genuine, prompting the United Nations also to sit up and take note.

There are several other videos and reports on the alleged war crimes including hearsays about the security personnel trading food for sex at Tamil refugee camps.
