PM's package for Kashmir Hindus is ''misleading'': Panun Kashmir
Jammu, Apr 30 (UNI) A Kashmiri pandit group today said the package announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his two-day visit for their community was ''misleading.'' Addressing a joint press conference here this morning, leaders of Panun Kashmir Dr Ajay Chrungoo and Dr Agnishekhar said they were not satisfied with the amount announced in the package as it was not sufficient to meet the demands of 55,000 families of displaced Kashmir Hindus.
''The package announced by Dr Singh for this community is false as it does not address any of the real problems, short or long term faced by the Kashmiri Hindus,'' Dr Agnishekhar said.
It trivialises the religious cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus and conveys a spirit of abdication of responsibility by the government to reverse the genocide of the community, the leaders added.
''The government has ironically announced availability of funds where there are no takers. It should have considered the primary demand of setting up a commission of inquiry into the core issue of Hindu exodus and fixing the responsibility,'' Dr Chrungoo said.
''The announcement of this package by the UPA government has demonstrated its ineptitude and abject failure in comprehending the real challenges to the return of Kashmir Hindus,'' he said, adding the government seems to have completely ignored the concerns and apprehensions Panun Kashmir raised during the round table conferences and working group meetings.
''The Prime Minister seems to have played into the hands of that section of political elite of Kashmiri Muslims, which irrespectively of party affiliations, want the issue of displacement and religion cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus to be pushed under the carpet,'' the leaders alleged saying that it is this section, which has constantly put obstacles to the permanent return of Kashmiri Hindus.
