Moscow, Sep 12: Russia has successfully tested world's most powerful ''thermobaric'' bomb, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Alexander Rukshin said.
Mr Rukshin told Russian state TV Channel One that the non-nuclear air-delivered bomb was environment friendly compared to a nuclear bomb.
''It is environment friendly, compared to a nuclear bomb and it will enable us to ensure national security and at the same time stand up to international terrorism in any part of the globe and in any situation,'' he said.
The new bomb nicknamed the ''dad of all bombs'' is four times more powerful than the US ''mother of all bombs,'' Channel One said.
However, it did not give the bomb's military name when it was tested.
The new weapon uses a fuel-air explosive and can create overpressures equal to an atomic bomb, Mr Rukshin said adding that the bomb does not violate any international agreements.
''We have got a relatively cheap ordnance with a high strike power,'' head of the Defence Ministry's institute in charge of weapons design Yuri Balyko said.
