Coimbatore: Morgan Freeman's picture put on Mandela's memorial poster

Coimbatore, Dec 19: In an embarrassing situation, photo of Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman was used in a billboard in Coimbatore instead of Nelson Mandela. The billboard was dedicated to Nelson Mandela, after his demise on December 5.

The billboard was erected on the side of a road in Coimbatore as a part of a memorial.

"We should be proud that we were part of an era when they lived," read the Tamil-language condolence message on the board.

Chandrashekhar, a cloth merchant, was the one who had paid for the billboard. He said that the grave mistake was on part of the designer. However he also said that he will replace the billboard with a correct image of Mandela.

Ever since the Mandels's death, many have been posting pictures of Freeman, due to the uncanny resemblance between him and Mandela, on Twitter paying their condolences to the anti-apartheid hero.

Freeman had played the role of Mandela in the film ‘Invictus' released in 2009.
