New Delhi, Nov 29: The Special CBI court granted bail to Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa in the 2G Spectrum case.

The CBI did not oppose Balwa's bail plea keeping in mind that the Supreme Court did not oppose to the bail plea of other accused in the case.

“As an officer of this court, considering the umbrella charges with individual charges framed against the accused, we are not opposing the bail plea at this juncture in view of the Supreme Court and High Court orders," said Special Public Prosecutor U U Lalit to the Special CBI judge O. P. Saini.

He further said that the charges framed against Balwa were similar to those against Telecom Director Vinod Goenka, who has been granted bail by the Supreme Court.

Yesterday DMK MP Kanimozhi, who was lodged in the Tihar jail for over 6 months was granted bail by the Delhi High Court.

Apart from Kanimozhi, Kusegaon Directors Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal, Cineyug founder Karim Morani, and Kalaignar TV's MD Sharath Kumar have also been granted bail on sureties of Rs 1 lakh each and on condition not to leave the country without prior permission.

Earlier, Sanjay Chandra of Unitech Wireless, Vinod Goenka and Reliance Group's Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair were granted bail by the apex court in the 2G case on Nov 23. He was arrested on Feb 8, 2011 by the CBI and was lodged at the Tihar Jail.
