The fact that Bhanwari Devi had amassed a huge amount of wealth in spite of her meagre salary of Rs 8000 per month has also raised eyebrows. The CBI is probing her source of income.
With the investigative agencies clueless on Bhanwari's whereabouts, there were rumours doing the rounds that she might have been murdered. She had gone missing from Jodhpur's Bilara area on Sept 1. After Maderna's name surfaced, he was sacked soon after by Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on Oct 16. There were reports that Maderna had a prominent role in the disappearance of the nurse after it was alleged that Bhanwari Devi blackmailed Maderna regarding the CD that showed both in a compromising position.
A senior police officer, on conditions of anonymity told agencies, "The CBI has got clues that Bhanwari had relations with not only Maderana, but also some other prominent and powerful people in the state including three ministers and three IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officers." The police however failed to divulge the names of those involved in a relationship with the nurse. It is also understood that the CBI found CDs from key accused in the Bhanwari Devi kidnapping case, Sohan Lal Vishnoi's house. He was arrested by the police. The officer added, "It is possible that Bhanwari was blackmailing not only Maderna, but some other people also on the basis of sex CDs."
The CBI is looking out for the CD that shows Maderna with Bhanwari in a compromising position. They think that the CD is hidden in a bank locker in Ajmer. The clues for the same was found in an audio clip that surfaced on Thursday and Friday that saw Bhanwari mentioning the existence of the CD that was hidden in a bank locker in Ajmer.
