The temple received contributions from various rulers like Vikrama Chola, Vira Rajendra Pandya, Achuthappa Nayak, and Maratha prince Thulaja. It has five inscriptions mainly from the period of Kulothunga Chola I. The temple is maintained by Dharmapuram Adheenam, a Saivite mutt.
