Believed to have been originally constructed during the Pallava period, the Vaikunda Perumal Temple later received contributions from the Chola dynasty. The temple underwent significant reconstruction with bricks and the addition of a mukha mandapam in recent years. Ashta Bandhana Maha Samprokshanam was conducted on November 8, 1968, following the rectification of damages and the construction of the Thayar Sannidhi. Subsequent Kumbhabhishekams were held on June 29, 2009, and February 10, 2014, after further renovations.
