The Ulagalantha Perumal Temple is believed to be the oldest temple in Kanchipuram. The earliest inscription dates back to 846 CE during the reign of Nandivarman III. The temple saw further development under Rajendra Chola I. It has 15 inscriptions from various dynasties like the Pallavas, Cholas, and Sambuvarayars. The temple received gifts and land donations from kings and chieftains, indicating its historical significance.
