The temple features inscriptions from the Chola period, including one from the 12th regnal year of Rajaraja III (1228 CE), recording land donations to the temple. The temple's architecture and sculptures are characteristic of Chola craftsmanship, with a 5-tier Rajagopuram and a sanctum sanctorum housing the deity Thirunandheeswarar. The temple underwent Kumbabishekam (consecration) on March 25, 2012.
