According to legend, after the death of his consort Uma, Lord Shiva performed a furious dance at this location, resulting in the emergence of eleven forms of Shiva. Another legend recounts that Lord Rama, after defeating Ravana, created a golden cow and donated it to a Brahmin from Sage Dhrudanetra's ashram.
