The temple's origins trace back to an idol installed by Lord Parasurama on Othera hill. Following a severe flood, the idol drifted to a farm, where it was discovered by a magician (Odiyan) and subsequently handed over to Vilwamangalam Swamiyar. Recognizing its sanctity, Vilwamangalam entrusted the idol to Sage Udhayarkkan, who installed it at the current location. The King of Chembakassery later constructed the temple, which follows the Manayathattu thantric rites, offering five daily poojas.
