Legends Beliefs

With reference to Skanda Purana, Yada, the son of a sage, performed tapas at this place to Lord Narasimha. Pleased by his devotion, Narasimha appeared in five forms: Jvala Narasimha, Gandabherunda Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha, and Lakshmi Narasimha. At Yada's request, the deity agreed to remain on the hill in these forms, which are now within the temple’s main cave. Traditionally, the temple follows the Tenkalai tradition of the Vaishnava Agama Shastras, as practiced widely in South India. The temple features the main temple, Mukha Mandapam, seven gopurams with wooden roofs, Vratha Peetham, Swamy Vari Udyana Vanam, Kalyana Mandapam, and Satram. A notable highlight is the set of pillars in the main temple dedicated to the 12 Alvars, the revered poet-saints of Sri Vaishnavism. The entrance arch of the temple is designed to represent the Mahābhūta—the five elements. The temple also includes the Vishnu Gundam, a sacred bath believed to cleanse off all negativities.

The idol of the temple is situated inside a cave measuring approximately 3.7 meters (12 feet) in height and 9.1 meters (30 feet) in length, located behind the main temple hall near the rear pillar. A stairway leads down into the chamber and further towards the back. Jvala Narasimha is depicted in a serpent form, while Yogananda Narasimha is shown seated in a meditative yoga posture. The main shrine houses a silver idol of Lakshmi-Narasimha. To the right of the temple’s main entrance is a shrine dedicated to Hanuman. Just below this shrine, a long horizontal gap in the rock is believed to be the manifestation spot of Gandaberunda Narasimha. The sanctum lies beneath a massive slanting rock that partially covers the temple, and it is believed that the devotees wishes are fulfilled.
Offerings

The cave-based sanctum sanctorum serves as the spiritual heart of the temple, attracting visitors in search of divine grace and fulfillment. Under the leadership of then Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, the Yadadri Temple underwent a major renovation from 2016 to March 2022, with a budget of ₹1800 crores. Managed by the YTDA, the temple now features 39 kg of gold and 1,753 tonnes of silver for adorning gopurams and walls, using traditional lime mortar techniques. The YTDA also acquired 770 hectares of land for ₹300 crores and built houses near the Vishnu Gundam. The Seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, sanctioned a grant of ₹82,825 for the temple. In February 2023, Princess Esra, wife of the Eighth Nizam, donated jewellery worth ₹8 lakh to the temple on behalf of the Nizam family.
Architecture

The temple showcases Dravidian architecture, built entirely in stone. It spans 16 acres, featuring intricate designs based on Agama Shastra. The temple's renovation included the use of Krishna Sila, Sthri Sila, and Napunsaka Sila stones, reflecting traditional craftsmanship. The temple's architecture follows the principles of Agama Shastra and is constructed entirely from stone. It spreads over 2 acres, the temple complex was expanded to 16 acres post clearing existing structure. The temple’s design was led by principal film set designer Anand Sai and chief architect P. Madhusudhan, both selected for their deep knowledge of ancient architecture rooted in Silpa and Agama principles. The entire structure is built in stone, with the intricate stone designs crafted under the guidance of the temple’s chief sthapathi, Sundararajan Srinivasan. Three types of stone are used in the temple's construction: Krishna Sila (also known as Purusha Sila) for the main deities in the sanctum, Sthri Sila for goddess idols, and Napunsaka Sila for flooring and walls. Additionally, black granite of the Kakatiya dynasty’s temple architecture is used. According to expert shilpis (sculptors), this granite contains tiny pores that absorb substances like milk, curd, and oil, which in turn enhance its strength and durability.
