The Pandavas, central figures in the Mahabharata, along with their wife Draupadi, are believed to have stayed here during their twelve-year exile. Three large boulders atop the rocks are said to represent a rock oven used by the Pandavas for cooking. When a water shortage occurred, Bhima, the mightiest among the Pandavas, is said to have struck the hard rock with his foot, producing a spring. The temple's name, 'Uravappara,' is believed to be derived from this spring, known as 'Abhishekatheertham,' that flows down from the rocks.
