Sree Lakshmi Narasimha Temple History and Significance

During the Portuguese persecution in Cochin, the Venkateswara idol, along with the idols of Lakshmi Devi from the Cochin Gosripuram temple and Narasimha Moorthi from the Thuravoor temple, were relocated to Alappuzha's Venkatachalapathy Temple (Old Tirumala Temple) for safekeeping. These idols remained in the North Agrasala for over 60 years. The presence of these sacred idols is believed to have contributed to Alappuzha's growth as a prominent trade and commerce hub. In 1852 AD, under the patronage of the Maharaja of Travancore, a new temple was constructed in Anantha Narayanapuram to house these deities. The area was named Anantha Narayanapuram in honor of the temple.
