The Ramappa Temple, also known as the Rudreshwara temple, built in the Kakatiya style and dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Palampet village, Mulugu district, Telangana,—15 km (9.3 mi) from Mulugu, 66 km (41 mi) from Warangal, and 209 km (130 mi) from Hyderabad.
An inscription within the temple states that it was constructed in 1213 CE by Recharla Rudra, a general under the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva (r. 1199–1262). Situated near the scenic Ramappa Lake, the temple complex, which consists of three temples, was built between 1212 and 1234. It was designed and architected by Ramappa, after whom the temple is named. During his visit to the Kakatiya empire, Marco Polo is believed to have described the temple as "the brightest star in the galaxy of temples." In July 2021, the Ramappa Temple was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
