Pishari Kovil Bhagavathy Temple History and Significance

According to legend, a Brahmin named Pishara brought the divine spark of Goddess Mookambika from Kollur to this location. After spending most of his life in Mookambika, Pishara returned to his native place during his old age and decided to spend the rest of his lifetime here. It is said that the goddess appeared before Pishara as 'Balambika' and gave him darshan. The spot where this holy event took place is now called 'Srimoolasthanam', where a swayambhoo idol is kept. The temple is also believed to be closely linked to Sree Poornathrayeesa, considered the elder brother of the goddesses of Chottanikkara and Pishari temples. In honor of this relationship, Lord Poornathrayeesan visits the temple during the Para Procession, and a combined pooja is held in the Mandapam for both deities.
