Padmakshi Temple, located in Hanamakonda, Telangana, is one of the region’s oldest temples. Dedicated to Goddess Padmakshi (Lakshmi), the temple also displays Jain influences. Originally, the site housed a Shaivite cave temple, and in 1117 CE, during the reign of Kakatiya chief Prola II — a Shaivite himself — a Jain shrine was established. Later, the Jain shrine was replaced by a Hindu temple. In the 19th century, the Jains attempted to reclaim the site, but a commission appointed by the Nizam of Hyderabad ruled that the location was originally a Hindu shrine.
