According to legend, after the churning of the celestial ocean, the devas, having consumed the 'Amrutham' (nectar of immortality), forgot to honor Lord Shiva, who had consumed the poison to save the universe. Realizing their mistake, they sought his forgiveness. Pleased, Lord Shiva performed a dance on his mount Nandi's horns, earning the name Nandeeswarar. The temple's architecture reflects the Dravidian style, with the main sanctum housing a large east-facing Shiva Lingam. The goddess Soundara Nayaki has a separate shrine within the temple complex. The temple also features a sacred tank (Kulam) used for rituals during special occasions.
