Marundeeswarar Temple is a historic temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. The temple is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, glorified by the Nayanars in the 7th century CE. The Chola kings expanded the temple during the 11th century CE.
The temple has two seven-tiered gateway towers and a large tank. The present structure was built during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century. Later expansions were done by the Vijayanagar rulers. The temple is maintained by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Tamil Nadu.
