The Martand Sun Temple was established in the eighth century CE by Lalitaditya Muktapida. It was a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Surya, the sun god. The temple was later destroyed in the 15th century by Sikandar Shah Miri, influenced by Sufi preacher Mir Muhammad Hamadani.
Scholars suggest that the destruction was part of a broader political strategy rather than purely religious persecution. The temple's ruins were further damaged by earthquakes over time, leaving only remnants of its former grandeur.
