The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain has a rich history. It was destroyed by Iltutmish in 1234-35 during his raid. The temple was later reconstructed by Maratha Diwan, Ramachandra Baba Sukthankar. It faced further attacks by Jalaluddin Khilji and Alauddin Khilji. After India's independence, the temple came under the management of the Ujjain district collectorate.
