Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple History and Significance

In 1990, the presiding deity, Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, was unearthed in the presence of the then District Collector of Chengalpet and archaeological authorities. The idol is estimated to be about 1,300 years old, likely dating back to the Pallava era. According to local accounts, Lord Narasimha appeared in a dream to the temple priest, Srinivasa Raghavan, and his wife, Choodamani Ammal, guiding them to the idol's location underground. It is believed that the deity was originally worshipped by King Kausika, who later became the sage Vishwamitra, during the Treta Yuga. The couple, with contributions from devotees, constructed the temple adhering to Agama Sastras as dictated by sage Brigu Muni. The temple's foundation comprises 248 chakras, upon which the sanctum housing Satyagnana Perumal and his consort, Anandavalli Thayar, is built.
