The sanctum houses a high-relief image of Lord Vishnu, depicted in a standing posture with four hands holding a conch and a discus. The temple also includes niches on either side of the entrance, one containing an image of Vinayagar (Ganesha) in the 'Lalitasana' posture. Despite the primary dedication to Vishnu, the temple is locally known as Avvaiyaaramman Temple, with the image on the left side of Lord Vishnu believed to represent the revered poetess Avvaiyar. Scholars assign the date of the cave to the 8th century A.D.
