Historically, the temple is associated with the Ettuveetil Karthakanmar, a group of eight influential families: Alakkodu, Kovilakathu, Puthuparambathu, Velikkakathu, Pulikkal, Kuzhuveli, Puthanveli, and Kunnath Parambu. These families, now known as Kaimalmar, were prominent in the administration of the area known as Karapuram under the Kochi kings.
