The Kheer Bhawani temple is mentioned in Kalhana's Rajtarangini. It describes the sacred spring of Tula Mula in a marshy area. The temple was submerged by floods long ago. Yogi Krishna Pandit Taploo had a dream where the Goddess guided him to the spring's location. The temple is also noted in the Bhrigu Samhita.
